Boost your professional expertise with noncredit, online offerings from Community College of Philadelphia and MindEdge.

Through August 31, you can take one of these three courses for FREE: Introduction to Critical Thinking, Personal Creativity or Creativity in Teams and Organizations.

Providing the latest in online courses and certificate programs, MindEdge delivers offerings through diverse content delivery methods, such as video, interactive exercises, learner assessments and simulation technology. Classes are available at any time, allowing you to learn at your convenience.


AHLEI made available free hospitality career training.

During this difficult time in our industry, we’d like to offer the opportunity for hospitality professionals to make good use of their time at home to develop skills that can help take your hospitality career to the next level. Now through April 30, you can access complimentary online training. Employees who are currently furloughed or laid off are eligible to apply for AHLEI certifications as long as they were employed as of March 1, 2020. All other certification eligibility requirements are still in place.



GPHA is dedicated to mentoring future hotel employees and providing continuing education and development for current hospitality industry employees. GPHA also assists industry employees with professional certifications, training and business development seminars, and provides scholarships and resource materials to schools, teaching centers and individuals to ensure a successful career path in the hospitality industry.

ServSafe Food Protection Manager Certificate

In partnership with the Pennsylvania Restaurant Association, GPHA is offering members the National Restaurant Association's One-Day Servsafe ® Certification program. Click here for dates, times, locations and registration. TIPS Bartending Certification

This certification program helps to assure that your front-of-the-house staff is prepared for every situation. It will outline effective responsible alcohol service practices for all front-of-the house staff including bartenders, waiters, hosts, bussers, security and valets that may need to prevent and/or deal with intoxication.

Temple University Event Executive Certificate Program 

The only award- winning, comprehensive events planning program that prepares you to achieve a certificate for a number of different professional organizations. The full program may be completed in one year, but you can enroll for individual courses as well. GPHA's Michael M. Boyle Scholarships

GPHA’s Michael M. Boyle Scholarship Fund affords scholarships to outstanding and deserving students working to earn an associate, bachelors or graduate degree in hospitality related fields. In addition to their studies, eligible students must demonstrate related work experience, an intention to pursue a career in hospitality and good academic standing with their high school, college or university. GPHA ensures winning recipients have funds forwarded to their respective colleges directly to be applied toward tuition, books, etc. for the subsequent semester.

Each applicant is considered based on outstanding leadership, academic achievement, and commitment to community involvement, and other organizations/associations at their respective high schools and colleges, and a personal essay addressing why he/she is the best candidate for the scholarship funds.

As the President of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association, Mike Boyle had over 35 years of experience in the hospitality industry. He was a founding member of the Greater Philadelphia Tourism & Marketing Corporation which today is Visit Philadelphia. He was a vigorous visionary and a devoted advocate for the hospitality industry. The scholarship is testament to his passion for the hotel community. The scholarship trust fun is manager by The Philadelphia Foundation.

Graduate Education Partnership with Temple University

Employees of hotels that are members of the Greater Philadelphia Hotel Association (GPHA) will be given the opportunity to advance their skill set with a guaranteed $4,000 scholarship and application fee waiver through Temple University’s School of Sport, Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM).

The partnership between STHM and GPHA will allow hospitality professionals from the 90 hotels in GPHA’s network to pursue a Master of Science in Hospitality Management and advance their careers through industry-relevant coursework in a hands-on environment build to enhance creativity and analytical thinking. Hotels with memberships in the GPHA employ more than 14,000 Philadelphia-area residents.

Through the program, students can pursue concentrations in hospitality operations management, event management or tourism and hospitality marketing. The capstone class is a real-world consulting project.

The agreement makes STHM the official graduate education partner of the GPHA.

COVID - 19 Emergency Rental Assistance Program 

The application period opens  May 12th, 2020 but funds are LIMITED and which means that they are expecting to be able to service 3,000 families.  All applications must be submitted no later than 5pm Saturday, May 15th, 2020.

COVID - 19 Emergency Assistance Program  

The city is offering an Emergency Assistance Program for families with children who were working and experienced the loss of a job or income due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Families whose income is below 150 percent of the federal poverty level-about $2,700 a month for a family of three-are eligible.
Families that qualify will be able to get a one-time grant of approximately $400-$1,200, based on their family size.
